ANTI-EVICTION MAPPING PROJECT (Est. 2013) by Manon Vergerio

ANTI-EVICTION MAPPING PROJECT; NEW YORK CHAPTER (2014-)

Manon Vergerio is an organizer and a critical urbanist whose practice draws across disciplines to illuminate and organize around urban justice issues. Vergerio is a co-founder of the NYC chapter of the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project (AEMP). Founded in 2013 in San Francisco Bay Area, the multimedia collective engages in visualizing the eviction data in California and New York and documents the evictees’ stories of resistance and struggle. The interactive mapping project shows eviction records, complaints, and the names of the landlords. The statistics reveal the worst landlords in the area and the number of evictions committed by each landlord. The AEMP also offers insights on topical issues, such as the situation under the recent eviction moratorium and tenant struggles during the Covid-19 lockdown. The volunteer collective prioritizes producing maps, data, and stories of those most impacted by gentrification, racial dispossession, and techno-capitalism.
